Brashear at Green City January 22, 2008
The Tigers and Gophers split a pair of Tri-County Conference games.
The Brashear Lady Tigers got on the board 1st, but Green City soon answered and a see-saw battle was on. The score was tied 10-10 after one quarter of play, but Green City gained some ground in the 2nd quarter and led 21-16 going into halftime. Brashear came out strong in the 3rd quarter and turned the game around to take a 6 point lead before Greeen City pulled within a single point at 28-27 to end the 3rd quarter. The game remained close in the 4th with Brashear holding a 1 point lead with under a minute and a half to go. After a couple of empty trips to the Lady Tiger end of the floor, Brashear surrendered their lead and were forced to foul allowing Green City to pull away for a 42-37 win. Hailee Kelsey led the way for Brashear with 10 points, Stephanie Elsea, Jessi Hill, and Christina Scudder scored 6 points each, Caroline Slavin had 5, and Emily Ladwig scored 4 points. For Green City, Chloe Phillips had 18, Amy Denham added 13, Miranda Brinsa scored 4, Lindsay Snyder had 3, and Annie Thomas and Shelby Jacobs each scored 2 points. In a side note, Brashear's Christina Scudder went out of the game the in 3rd period with a knee injury and will be awaiting an evaluation Thursday to assess the extent of the injury.
In the boys' game, it was literally all Brashear in the 1st quarter as they jumped out to a 28-0 lead after the 1st frame. Green City finally got on the scoreboard in the 2nd period as Brashear's offense cooled down and the Tigers took a 31-7 lead into the locker room. Brashear continued to outscore Green City in the 2nd half and led 46-18 after 3 quarters on the way to a 62-30 victory. For Brashear, Kale Watson led all scorers with 17, Kiley Watson and Ryan Ferdig added 9 each, Trae Treasure had 8 points, David Anderson had 6, Matt Thomas had 5, Justin Hazen had 4, and Anthony Ambrosia and Adam Songer scored 2 points each. For the Gophers, Jesse Estrada scored 11 points, Jake Sutton had 8, Dylan Brundage had 7, and Michael Leslie and Ora Jacobs scored 2 points each.
